Men and Women’s Book Discussion Group –
“Same Kind of Different As Me” by Ron Hall and Denver Moore
Room 106: Facilitator: Denise Holland
Same Kind of Different as Me is a non-fiction autobiographical account of two unlikely friends and published in 2006. This story is about their lives from childhood almost seventy years earlier to their attendance at the 2005 presidential inauguration. Denver Moore is born in Red River Parish, Louisiana and grows up to become a poor, illiterate homeless yet intensely spiritual black man skilled at surviving alone on the street or in jail. Ron Hall is born in Haltom City, Texas and grows up to be a rich, well-educated propertied white man skilled at succeeding in the international world of fine art. Their story is told in their own words and dialect which presents a lively, interesting dialogue between a Southern black man and white Texan getting to know each other through the persistent encouragement of Ron's wife Deborah who brings them together and then dies.

Youth Study – King David
Upstairs in Youth Rooms
Facilitated by Youth Ministries Director, Jason Barrs &
Youth Ministries Co-ordinator, Amanda McMillan
King David - Warrior, Liar. Hero. Murderer. King. Hollywood couldn't write a more conflicted and compelling story about a boy who would become king. But this humble shepherd boy who became the greatest king of Israel also struggled with sin, authority, purity, and integrity. In these four inspiring sessions, Daor. vid Nasser looks at the trials, temptations, and triumphs that King David faced and shows how the truths found in David’s life are relevant to the real-life issues students encounter every day. Each session hosted by contemporary Christian recording artists Shane Barnard and Shane Everett from Shane & Shane. Study sessions include Overcoming our Giants, When Life Isn't Fair, Things You Never Thought You'd Do, and One True Friend.

Young Adult Bible Study (ages 18-25)
"When Christians Get It Wrong" by Adam Hamilton
Upstairs in Room 201 Facilitated by Nicholas Perez
More and more young adults have opted out of Christianity and the church. The reason? Christians.
When young adults talk about the problems they have with Christianity and the church, they often name certain attitudes and behaviors they believe are practiced too often by Christians: judging others, condemning people of other faiths, rejecting science, injecting politics into faith, and being anti-homosexual. With his familiar style, Adam Hamilton tackles these issues and addresses the how’s and why’s of Christians getting it right when it comes to being Christ in the world.
